Those who look to Him are radiant. - Psalm 34:5a
Have you ever slowed down on the highway to let another car get in front of you? How about stopping to let someone who is jaywalking his merry way across the middle of traffic? My husband was so relaxed when he drove I sometimes worried he’d just doze off at the wheel. Nothing bothered him. If someone drove up hugging his rear end, he’d just invite them with a friendly hand gesture to come on through. If they cut him off suddenly he would just ease back on the gas, make a mild and comical comment, and toddle on his way. Instead of honking in annoyance at the person who just cut you off, have you ever tried a little wave of forgiveness? It feels a heck of a lot better than the normal response. And we all know what that looks like!
My “favourite quotation” on my Facebook page is an Oscar Wilde nugget “Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.” But better still “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Matthew 6:14
When other people’s driving annoys us, is it a sin? Perhaps not. Are they our enemy? Not very likely. But we can treat them as if they are our brothers. We may have difficulty loving the honking horn and flying finger roaring by us at 120 K, but we can forgive it.
Get on the highway to happiness today and dare to make yourself feel good by forgiving someone who’s trying to make you feel bad. Go get ‘em!
'Til next time.
